Ann's Couples Therapy
Somatic couples psychotherapy
Service Description
Somatic & Trauma-Informed Couples Therapy I offer trauma-informed couples therapy to support partners who feel stuck in repeating conflict, emotional disconnection, communication breakdowns, or patterns that feel hard to shift. My approach integrates somatic psychotherapy, Somatic Experiencing, Resource Therapy (parts work), EMDR-informed understanding of trauma patterns, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), and mindfulness-based practices to help couples understand not just what is happening in the relationship, but how each person’s nervous system is responding in the moment. Many couples seek support when they notice cycles of reactivity, withdrawal, shutdown, or escalation. Often these patterns are rooted in past relational or developmental experiences that are being activated in present-day conflict. In sessions, we slow things down to help each partner understand their triggers, body responses, and protective patterns, creating more space for regulation, curiosity, and connection. Sessions focus on: Improving communication and emotional understanding Identifying and changing reactive cycles Supporting nervous system regulation in conflict Healing attachment injuries and trust ruptures Increasing emotional safety and connection Understanding individual “parts” that show up in relationship dynamics The work is paced carefully to ensure both partners feel safe, heard, and supported. Rather than focusing only on problem-solving, therapy helps you understand the deeper emotional and nervous system patterns driving disconnection, so new ways of relating can emerge. If you are looking for couples therapy, relationship counselling, or trauma-informed relationship support in the South West WA region, you are welcome to get in touch.
