Our Clinical Approach
At Southwest Trauma Therapy, our work is grounded in trauma-informed, body-oriented and attachment-focused psychotherapy.
We integrate a range of evidence-based and somatic modalities to support nervous system regulation, relational repair and sustainable healing. Rather than applying a single method, we tailor therapy to the individual, recognising that trauma is experienced in the body, relationships and nervous system — not just in thoughts.
Cognitive & Evidence-Based Therapies
We integrate cognitive and behavioural therapies where appropriate, including:
• Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
• Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
• Schema-informed approaches
These methods may support emotional regulation, behavioural change and skill-building alongside trauma processing.
Somatic & Body-Oriented Psychotherapy
Trauma impacts the nervous system and is often held physiologically. Our body-centred approaches focus on restoring regulation, increasing somatic awareness and supporting integration at a pace that feels safe.
This may include:
• Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
• Somatic Experiencing®
• Nervous system regulation practices
• Embodiment-based interventions
Clinical Hypnotherapy (CBT-Based)
CBT-based clinical hypnotherapy may be integrated where appropriate to support trauma recovery, habit change and nervous system regulation.
Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)
DBR is a neuroscience-informed trauma therapy that works with the brainstem-level shock response associated with attachment injury and traumatic events.
This approach supports gentle processing of trauma while maintaining nervous system stability.
Attachment-Focused & Relational Therapy
Attachment experiences shape how we relate, connect and respond to stress. Our work explores relational patterns, early developmental experiences and how they influence present-day relationships.
This approach is particularly relevant in couples therapy and relational trauma.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing)
EMDR is an evidence-based trauma therapy that supports reprocessing of distressing memories and reduces emotional charge.
It is often used in the treatment of PTSD, attachment trauma and relational distress.
Resource Therapy (Parts-Based Work)
Resource Therapy works with different “parts” of the self that may hold trauma, protective strategies or unresolved emotion.
This structured approach supports integration, internal safety and increased self-understanding.
Creative & Expressive Therapies
Creative Arts Psychotherapy and expressive methods may be incorporated, particularly in work with children, adolescents and trauma survivors.
These approaches allow processing beyond verbal expression.
Trauma-Informed Yoga & Movement
Somatic movement and trauma-sensitive yoga support regulation, embodiment and reconnection with the body.
These practices complement psychotherapy by strengthening physiological resilience.
Our Commitment
Our work is integrative and collaborative. No single method is applied rigidly; rather, therapy is tailored to each individual’s history, nervous system responses and relational patterns.
We are committed to ethical, trauma-informed practice and ongoing professional development.
